Known as the “Land of White Orchids” (derived from its local Lepcha name Kharsang), it serves as a peaceful, less-crowded alternative to its famous neighbor, Darjeeling, which lies 32 kilometres to the north. Unlike higher-altitude towns, Kurseong enjoys a mild, comfortable alpine climate throughout the year, though it experiences heavy rainfall during the monsoon season.
